Mastering the Mysteries of Stepfamilies
Join us for seven weeks, beginning February 22, as we unravel the mysteries of stepfamilies. Stepfamilies have a rough go of it. There are children. There are “ex’s.” There are bills. There are conflicts about discipline, relationships, priorities–you name it. Just about every couple who enters a new stepfamily marriage is determined, “It’s going to be different this time.” You’re wiser, more committed to the value of relationship, more aware of how fragile a marriage can be. You have high expectations. But those expectations often run straight into kids who don’t want to “adjust,” two families that seem to be like oil and water with each other, and too much to do in too little time.
Mastering the Mysteries of Stepfamilies finds ways to make expectations realistic–and thus realized. It mixes research with fun and deep dialogues, using the MML skills. It finds ways to solve problems and create pathways to understanding and cooperation. Couples who attend should first attend MML 1. The content in MML 2 is included in the stepfamily class.
Each evening you will discover how to maneuver one of the mysteries of stepfamilies so that working with it builds up strengths for your new family life.
These mysteries are:
- How do I help my child feel secure?
- How do I build a good relationship with my step-child?
- How do we create safe and comfortable stepfamily boundaries?
- How do we discipline effectively?
- How do I manage a workable relationship with my “Ex”?
- How do I support my child’s relationship with the other bio-parent?
- How do we choose between our different traditions?
- How do we maintain and protect our strong, loving marriage and stepfamily?
- How do we know if we need more help? And where do we go to get it?
