The MML curriculum at present consists of 3 programs in simple language that teach Bernard Guerney’s Relationship Enhancement skills.
These 4 programs are:
- Mastering the Mysteries of Love RE for Couples
- Love’s Cradle RE
- Mastering the Magic of Love RE
- Ready for Love RE
- All four programs teach the 10 RE skills in simple language and fun to do activities.
Mastering the Mysteries of Love RE for Couples is the newest program, published in January, 2008. In book format, it was created for Healthy Marriage Initiatives across the country. It has become a core program for California Healthy Marriages Coaltions, Alabama Community Healthy Marriage Initiative, Bluegrass Healthy Marriage Initiative (Ky), and a number of community programs. Just published, the newest MML has already received orders for 10,000 copies! Check out the Mastering the Mysteries section for details of this program.
Love’s Cradle RE is the program that started the MML series. In 2004 IDEALS contracted with Mathematica Policy Research to develop a version of the Relationship Enhancement® Program that would match the needs and characteristics of couples identified in the Fragile Families research. From this contract the Love’s Cradle Program developed. It is now being used as part of ACF’s Building Strong Families marriage initiative in Houston and San Angelo, Texas. It combines training in RE skills with discussion of issues common to unmarried parents with an infant or young children. Besides RE it includes modules on Trust, Money, Marriage, and Complex Family Relationships. For more information, see the Love’s Cradle section.
Mastering the Magic of Love RE is the same as Love’s Cradle, except it is just the RE skills. It is appropriate for any couple situation. In handout form, it is a predecessor of the newer Mastering the Mysteries of Love. It presents the skills in ways that are especially appropriate for low education learners. We are not sure if Mastering the Magic was a transition program or if it will hold a place of its own. We will continue to produce it for those who wish to use it, at least through 2008.
Ready for Love RE is due for publication in April, 2008. It will present the RE skills for singles, individuals, and youth.
