What is the Heart of America Leadership Institute?
The Heart of America Leadership Institute is a FREE, two year program for Marriage Education Leaders and Activists offered by IDEALS. Its goal is to make Marriage Education a normal part of life across America. It DOES NOT teach you how to present any particular Marriage Education program. It DOES apply the best of what we know from other disciplines (education, business, leadership, marketing, research) to Marriage Education. The institute is about collaborating with other emerging leaders and working to establish perpetual programming. It teaches you how to be a more effective Activist and Leader.
All classes are offered via Bridgeline call and online. The program centers
around an hour-long call each month, October through June. There is no
monetary cost (other than any long distance charges you incur for calls) for
those enrolled in the Institute. However, to enroll, you must show evidence of Marriage Education or community leadership.
The goal of the Institute is to bring people together who want to change the world and make their work more effective—even if they have little or no funding.
Our first class will begin in January 2010 via bridgeline calls .f you are not signed up and would like to join,

FAQs about the Heart of America Leadership Institute
What is included in the Heart of America Leadership Institute?
The Institute provides INFORMATION through monthly bridgeline call presentations by national leaders and monthly reading materials. It provides a STRUCTURE for you to identify strengths, needs, and strategies to provide Marriage Education in your community through monthly activities. It provides COLLABORATION and NETWORKING with other marriage educators through a support network. Each monthly topic will provide you with another arrow for your quiver in your efforts to develop perpetual programming in your community.
What do you mean by Perpetual Programming?
Marriage Education that lasts for years to come. Parenting, health, and leisure education are part of our culture. Classes are offered in almost every community in America. Nobody thinks there’s something wrong with you because you go to a kickboxing or aerobics class. There’s no stigma if you study scrapbooking or conversational Spanish. We need to take Marriage Education there—to the heart of American life—so it becomes the norm. How do we do that?
We can take lessons from those other fields. We can make Marriage Education a “line item” in the budgets of churches and agencies, a topic at community education centers. We can find creative ways to make it “the thing to do.” The Heart of America Leadership Institute seeks to bring Marriage Educators together to learn from our own experts, experts in other fields, and our own successes. Those enrolled then apply that learning to their own community and share their successes and difficulties with others. This can create perpetual programming that is not dependent on grants or the total dedication of a few tireless volunteers.
What does it cost?
No money (other than phone charges). Time: About 5 hours a month. This includes the monthly bridgeline call, reading, application of ideas from the call to your community, and BLOG or phone discussion with others about your efforts.
How do I know if I should enroll?
We are looking for leaders who want to take Marriage Education beyond
the limits of grants. We are looking for leaders who want to take information
provided by a national leader and apply it to your community. We are
looking for people who want to freely collaborate with others. Is that you?
How many are accepted into the program?
Each class is limited to 30 people to allow for bridgeline discussion and individual attention. The first class will begin in January, 2010 finish in
December, 2012.
Is this a program for those teaching Mastering the Mysteries of Love?
No. This is a separate project. You can use any program and participate.
When will calls be scheduled?
Each month there two options for calls. One will be in the evening, the
other during the day.
